Life Science Partner is pleased to announce the recruitment of Nora York to join Canary Medical as Senior Director of Regulatory & Quality Assurance.

Canary Medical is an innovative medical technology company commercializing smart implants in the orthopedic, cardiovascular, and aesthetic markets. The company integrates a sensor and microprocessor system into FDA-cleared implantable medical devices to generate real-time insights about the performance and safety of these products.

York will be responsible for developing Canary’s regulatory strategy in concert with the other leaders of the team. Her role will involve implementation, oversight, and maintenance of Canary’s regulatory affairs organization.

Nora York

Before joining Canary, York was the Director of Regulatory Affairs & Quality Assurance for SynergEyes, an advanced technology specialist company for hybrid contact lenses. She also spent two years as the Head of Regulatory Affairs for Philips Volcano Corporation in San Diego, where she was in charge of the development and execution of regulatory strategy and submission of several 510(k) applications for the company’s Image-Guided Therapy systems.

Rosalind Fabunmi, PhD

Fabunmi will lead Edwards’ evidence development and publication strategy in order to call attention to the prevalence and costs of valvular disease. Importantly, she will also serve as the public face of the company on these issues, engaging key opinion leaders to address the broad lack of awareness.

Fabunmi joins Edwards already possessing subject matter expertise in structural heart disease. Earlier in her career, she served in medical affairs roles for transcatheter aortic valve replacement technologies with Medtronic. Notably, she has also served in medical affairs roles in the pharmaceutical industry, working on heart failure products with Merck and Amylin Pharmaceuticals.

Most recently, Fabunmi served as Senior Director, Medical Affairs with the diabetes company Zafgen. The pharmaceutical industry has blazed the trail on burden of disease data and its use, so Fabunmi’s combination of medical device and pharmaceutical experience in Edwards’ disease space makes her exceptionally qualified for this role. In a career primarily focused on medical affairs, Fabunmi’s experience also encompasses health economics and outcomes research, rendering her almost unique in terms of the skills she brings to Edwards.

Utilizing this platform, the company provides customized companion diagnostics solutions for pharmaceutical companies developing novel oncology drugs. Leica Biosystems is part of the Danaher group of companies.

Schrock previously served as Sr. Manager, Alliances with Illumina in San Diego, where he was responsible for managing corporate partnerships for the development of companion diagnostics for oncology drugs. Prior, Schrock led clinical affairs programs in IVD and CDx with Ventana Medical Systems, Abbott Laboratories, and Cepheid.

In his new role, Schrock will be responsible for overseeing Leica’s clinical research programs, providing strategic leadership to the company’s evolving clinical affairs function, and managing partnerships with pharmaceutical companies for the continued development and testing of companion diagnostics for personalized medicine.

“Companion diagnostics development is core to the Leica’s clinical strategy, so this leader must have a solid grounding in not only clinical trials leadership, but also diagnostics development and pharmaceutical partnering. Former Senior Director, Global Safety Officer at The Medicines Company

Life Science Partner recruited Yanshan Ma, MD, PhD, to become Senior Director, Medical Safety Physician, Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases for Allergan. 

In her new role Dr. Ma will be responsible for the group’s safety strategy, pharmacovigilance and medical risk management.

Dr. Ma joins Allergan after leading a cross-functional safety management team at The Medicines Company where she was responsible for ensuring accurate safety evaluation and signal detection.  She’s been a key member in the growth of The Medicines Company.

Dr. Ma earned her PhD in Biochemistry from East Tennessee State University’s James E. Quillen College of Medicine and her MD from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in China.

Former Senior Scientist and Advisor to the Director, Division of Oral Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Life Science Partner recruited Eugenio Beltran, DMD, MPH, MS, DrPH, Senior Scientist and Advisor to the Director, Division of Oral Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to become Senior Director, Center for Scientific Strategies and Information for the American Dental Association (ADA).

The ADA is the oldest and largest national dental society in the world and is committed to both the public and the dental profession.

In this new role, Beltran will execute the strategies of the Science Institute and Council, as envisioned by the Senior Vice President, Dan Meyer.  “Beltran has an energy that is infectious,” states Tom Callaway, MD, founder and president of Life Science Partner.  “He is a global scientist and who will link the ADA more tightly to its mission to increase the oral health of people worldwide.”

During his tenure at the CDC, Beltran led the evaluation of current recommendations for fluoride in drinking water for the US and he conducted research regarding the epidemiology of dental caries in pre-school children for eight Latin-American countries.

Beltran earned his Bachelor of Science Degree and his Cirujano Dentista (DMD) at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Peru.  After receiving his Master of Public Health and Master of Science from the University of Michigan, he received his Doctor of Public Health from the University of Michigan.

Former Director, Software Engineering at GE Healthcare

Life Science Partner recruited Saty Seshan, MS, a seasoned software development executive, to become Senior Director, Software Engineering for Immucor.

Immucor is a global in vitro diagnostics company and a world-class leader in the development, manufacturing, and sale of products used by hospital blood banks, clinical laboratories and blood donor centers.

Seshan will serve as the leader of Immucor’s Software Engineering team and report to the Chief Scientific Officer, Vice President, Research and Development.  Seshan will be responsible for driving the development and managing the execution of high quality, integrated cross-functional plans for software projects.

During his tenure at GE Healthcare, Seshan was responsible for managing a global software organization of 100 engineers.  He was in charge of the vision, strategy, technical direction, team development, execution, and financials of the software business.  “Seshan is an enthusiastic, high-energy individual who has the ability to motivate others to accomplish their critical tasks,” stated Tom Callaway, MD, President of Life Science Partner.  “He is a leader, having built a global team that integrates complex units to provide increasing clinical utility and lower cost for imaging solutions.”

Seshan earned a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the M.K. University in Karaikudi, India.  Additionally, he received his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama.

Life Science Partner recruits former Senior Manager, Assistant Director Program Management for Life Technologies

Life Science Partner announces the recruitment of Erik Greenfield, a Six Sigma Black Belt engineer, to Immucor to become Senior Director, Program Management for the company.

Immucor is a global in vitro diagnostics company specializing in the area of pre-transfusion diagnostics. The Company is the global leader in the development, manufacture, and sale of products used by hospital blood banks, clinical laboratories, and blood donor centers to detect and identify certain properties of human blood prior to patient transfusion.

At Life Technologies, he was responsible for coordinating and managing the overall project schedules worldwide for the molecular and cell biology groups.  He drove new product commercialization timelines and budgets for all aspects of product development from concept to project closure.  Previously, Greenfield served as Manager, Business Development & Integration Projects (M&A), at PerkinElmer – Life & Analytical Sciences.

Greenfield received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ohio University in Athens, OH.  He earned his Masters in Biomedical Engineering from George Washington University.  Greenfield is Six Sigma Black Belt certified.

Life Science Partner announces the recruitment of Cathy Srebalus-Barnes, PhD, an experienced bioanalytical executive, to become Senior Director, Bioanalytical Sciences, Global Biologics R&D for Hospira, Inc.

Hospira is a global specialty pharmaceutical and medication delivery company that develops, manufactures and markets products that help improve the safety, effectiveness and costs of patient care.

In her new role at Hospira, Inc., Srebalus-Barnes will lead a global scientific team responsible for bioanalytical method development and bioanalytical characterization activities supporting Hospira’s growing biosimilars pipeline.

Srebalus-Barnes has spent much of her career at Eli Lilly and Company, where she was most recently responsible for leading three teams of scientists that included Analytical Development, Trace Analysis and Bioassay groups.  She oversaw the complete downstream process for Phase II – ready for III preparation for therapeutic biotechnology products in clinical and commercial development.  Previously, Srebalus-Barnes served as Director, Bioprocess Virology and Purification Development, where she was responsible for two groups managing the purification process development and viral safety procedures for all biotechnology products in development.

Barnes earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from West Virginia University and her Doctorate from Indiana University in Analytical Chemistry.

Life Science Partner recruits former Assistant Director, Global Medical Publishing at Abbott Laboratories

Life Science Partner announces the recruitment of William Glass, PhD, an experienced global medical affairs executive, to Allergan, Inc., to become Senior Director, Publications, Global Medical Affairs for the company.

Allergan is a technology-driven, multi-specialty health care company that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative pharmaceuticals, biologics and medical devices in the areas of eye care, neurosciences, medical dermatology and urology.

Working with the physician leaders at Abbott Laboratories, Glass oversaw the development and execution of the global publication strategy across therapeutic areas utilizing the considerable scientific data generated by Abbott clinical trials.  Prior to joining Abbott, Glass was a Senior Research Scientist at Centocor Research and Development in Radnor, Pennsylvania.

Life Science Partner recruits former Director of Global Compliance Program at Mylan Pharmaceuticals

Life Science Partner announces the recruitment of Nancy Grygiel, an experienced global compliance executive, to Allergan, Inc. to become Senior Director, Corporate Compliance, International for the company.

Allergan is a technology-driven, multi-specialty health care company that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative pharmaceuticals, biologics and medical devices in the areas of eye care, neurosciences, medical dermatology and urologics.

In Grygiel’s previous role at Mylan Pharmaceuticals, a Pennsylvania-based company developing generic and specialty pharmaceuticals, she was responsible for overseeing the global compliance program operations across North American, Asia Pacific, Europe and Middle East, and India and China.

Prior to joining Mylan, Grygiel practiced as an International Business Transactions and Immigration Specialist at the Law Offices of Paul S. Haar in Washington, DC.
